Learn Some Of The Surfing Etiquette

Surfing Etiquette is an art that anyone can learn. In order to be a good surfer, there are certain things that need to be kept in mind. However, there are also a few little things that surfers do on the water that we as surfers are not necessarily aware of. For instance, one of the most important things to know about surfing etiquette is this: never talk on the board.

To give you a better idea of what I am talking about, let’s take the case of surfing on a board that does not have a handrail. Some people do this at the beach and others do it at the ocean. Talk about wearing your etiquette on your sleeve! Surfing etiquette should never be displayed by surfing in this manner, especially when the waves are big. This is because it is a bad idea for riders to put their hands near the blade of the board, as the dangerous knife edge of the board could easily come into contact with the hand.

Some Common Things To Know About Surfing Etiquette

A common thing among surfers is to have their arms hanging down, so they don’t have to tap the blade of the board with their hands. While this is somewhat acceptable, a warning should be given to those who would like to have their hands in contact with the board.

The reason why this is important is because it helps surfers to protect themselves from getting cut while surfing. Also, having the hands free from contact with the board does help keep your balance while surfing as well.

You should also give the regular warning to your board before hand. This will allow you to spot the warning and take the necessary action before it gets out of control.

It should be noted that you do not have to abide by any particular etiquette while riding the board, but what is important is that you always keep your hands and fingers away from the blade of the board. These hands could be cut and hurt you while you are surfing.

Surfing Etiquette Is To Handle Things

Also, the area around the handle is another obvious area that should be avoided. The big secret is not to do it, but too many people forget to avoid it.

One other area that surfers tend to overlook is the shoulder of the board where it attaches to the waist. It is a major contact area and should be kept free of dirt and other things that could get into it.

Another form of surfing etiquette is called the cranky man. This is where a surfer places their hand and fingers just below the lip of the board in order to stop it from spinning out.

Some Tips To Know

Because this is done when the waves are big, the person has to be careful about being able to reach the lip and not getting stuck. It’s not the greatest thing to try, but if they can figure out how to do it, it’s a very nice gesture.

If you want to learn more about surfing etiquette, then you should learn to surf in California, Oregon, Washington, or some other coastal state that has less high school superstars. Surfing is a great sport, but there are some things that you shouldn’t do while on the board.

If you want to learn more about the more normal surfing etiquette, then make sure you surf in surfs with average surfers and your best bet is the southern part of California. Then, you will be able to appreciate a different aspect of surfing and an ocean where normal surfing etiquette takes place.
