Many people learn to surf while on a yoga vacation, and in many cases the instructor will teach yoga classes at the beach. Many people love being able to work out their muscles so much, they actually keep up with their class by incorporating yoga into their surfing experience.
One of the greatest parts of learning to surf is riding the waves. Most beaches have white and blue water that can create some incredible waves, but a lot of the surf you will see will be referred to as bodysurfing. Bodysurfing is when you catch the waves and push them against the board using your feet and hands. People who are bodysurfing usually use a paddle which helps them gain control of the wave.
The majority of surfing breaks come from the ocean floor, meaning they are easy to reach. If you are just starting out learning to surf you will likely spend quite a bit of time above water. Many times this can mean that you are in for a rude awakening. A lot of people who are learning to surf are afraid of heights so they dread the thought of trying to stand on the sea bed. You can still enjoy the waves, but you will need to learn how to handle yourself when you get up to the top of the ocean.
Some people are not as scared of the sea as others are. These people prefer to learn to surf from the shoreline or from one of the surf camps situated on the coast. When you are in a surf camp you are forced to go in groups of three or more. If you want to go surfing alone you will likely be required to take a raft with you.
One of the biggest mistakes that new surfers often make is failing to carry a leash. Leashes are essential for successful surfing as without it there is no way for you to paddle out safely. New surfers often think about grabbing the leash and going out to catch the first wave they see, but without a leash you are placing yourself at great risk.
Many beginners start paddling out with the hopes of learning to surf on small waves. These smaller waves are easier to deal with and usually result in smaller surfboard slides. The best way to deal with these slides is to keep your head down and your body slightly tilted to the wind so that it works in conjunction with the slide to make it easier to control it. This means that you are not going to have to deal with large waves which can really destroy a beginner’s day.
Once you understand how to deal with large swells and the benefits of staying calmer you can move up to the bigger ocean waves. The ocean is much harder to paddle out into so it requires more effort to deal with. The best way to deal with these ocean waves is to take a longer paddle out and try to catch a bigger wave rolling in. Once you have this mastered you will then be able to ride up on the waves that you would have normally rode out in. Learning to surf is not hard and anyone can do it.
