Kanto Area

If you are near Tokyo, Kanto area has something to offer you, a great surfing experience. Chiba offers the best surfing experience which is just 45 minutes away from Tokyo. Shonan is also a popular name among surfers. It is a bit smaller and gathers small crowd, situated in south Chiba. Shonan trip will be ideal if you can begin it from Enoshima Beach and end it at the traditional city of Kamakura. Outside the Kanto area, there is Shizuoka which takes about 2.5 hours by car. Try to visit these areas between August to October to have awesome waves a thrilling experience.

Okinawa And The Islands

These tropical islands are the pride of the country due to its best weather condition. No matter what climate it is, these beaches deserve committed surfers throughout the year. People seem to know that as well, and that’s why it is one of the most popular areas for surfing. However, visiting Okinawa may require some extra attention as the sharp coral reefs and tropical storms can be dangerous at times. Shikoku is a popular island situate at southwest Japan. Famous for its weather, beach conditions, easy access, and popular surfing communities. For getting the best surfing experience from Shikoku, try to visit between June and November. Kochi and Tokushima are situated on the island’s most south coastline. This is also popular for best swells and comforting weather throughout the year.


If you are traveling around Osaka city, you must check out the beaches in Kansai and the beaches situated in the Wakayama regions. In this area, the most popular beach among surfers is Isonoura which takes about an hour from Osaka if you drive by car. This beach can become overcrowded as it attracts surfers from all over Kansai. So, if you have a car or time to hang around, you can find some smaller and less crowded spots down the Wakayama coastline.
